A Canine Who Cares

Bruce the dog
While Brooke Glen does not explicitly offer pet therapy as a modality, we are thrilled to have Bruce as a special regular visitor every Wednesday who brightens the day of our patients. Bruce is a hypoallergenic Golden Doodle certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. His affectionate and gentle nature is comforting to patients, especially for those on our Extended Acute Care and Adolescent units. With his big smile, wagging tail and friendly temperament, Bruce helps to make an extended stay feel more like home.

Research has overwhelmingly shown the positive effects of pets for those who have a mental illness. But beyond our patients, visits from Bruce are beneficial to hospital staff. The use of pets as therapeutic agents is shown to increase morale, attentiveness and self-awareness in behavioral health settings leading to better outcomes for the facility overall. We see Bruce as a member of our team, dedicated to providing compassionate care to those in need.
